The Future of Australia’s Science Measured in Microns

A red blood cell is about 8 microns in size, a white blood cell is 25.  The bacteria it fights may only be a single micron in size.   In the engineering and scientific community, size matters.  A human hair is about 70 microns – gigantic by comparison.  From the contents of your blood, to particulates in the air, to safe construction materials, chemical filtering, mineral and geotechnical materials and beyond, science and engineering relies on unimaginable precision to keep us safe and healthy.

Measuring in Microns

Measuring and sorting particle sizes is done with certified sieves.  The sieve you use to drain your pasta water is, a distant cousin to one of the most important tools in modern labs. Unlike a kitchen colander, certified test sieves meet international standards for precision.  They’re made from woven stainless steel, with gaps in the mesh as small as 20 microns.  A single “kink” in the mesh can spell disaster in the lab.

Australia Leading the Way in Internationally Certified Test Sieves

CMT is an Australian lab equipment supplier for testing equipment.  Amongst their selection of penetrometers, sieve shakers, moisture conditioning apparatuses, vane shear testers and nuclear density gauges, you’ll find, UKAS certified sieves, made to order, with perfect precision, in stainless steel mesh, accurate to 20 microns.  While these scientific sieves were always popular, they quickly grew a reputation for superior accuracy, not just in Australia, but across the scientific world.  They went from “a product” to CMT’s most in demand product and the international leader in ISO3310 Certified Test Sieves.

“The demand for our scientific sieves has burgeoned in the last few years as word of mouth has spread.  I founded this company in response to the needs of our lab customers and have focused heavily on research and development.  Our work in precision sieving technology has produced exactly what the industry needs and that’s quite an honor for an engineering test equipment firm.”  said Dave Dick, founder of CMT Equipment on the Gold Coast.

Australia’s Reputation for Excellence

Quality stainless steel, word leading manufacturing standards, cutting edge production facilities and focus on quality has set Australia apart from nations producing of scientific goods cheaply.

“In science and engineering, precision and reliability is everything, from your million dollar machines, right down to your everyday tools, like humble certified sieves” said Mr Dick.
