Aussie spending not slowing down despite cost of living crisis

The cost-of-living crisis is just getting started with inflated prices now at a 21-year high, but Aussie spending is showing no signs of slowing down.

New research commissioned by deal-discovery platform Lasoo has found that almost nine in ten (89%) Australians are still overspending on items. With nearly one in five (17%) Australians admitting they overspend often, that means more than 3.4 million Aussies are still splashing out top dollar, especially on everyday essentials.

The study revealed the key categories Australians are most likely to overspend on are clothing and accessories (46%), groceries (44%), electronics, computers, and software (33%), and health and beauty (28%).

The research was conducted as Lasoo launched its revamped website, bringing shoppers a new one-stop-shop for only the best deals and specials around Australia.

Rob Draper, Chief Executive Officer of Lasoo, understands the vital need for consumer savings in this climate and hopes to support Australians who are finding times tough.

“Cost of living has hit Aussies hard this year and we at Lasoo want to level the playing field. Customers should be able to shop with the peace-of-mind that they’re getting the best price possible, and we’ve worked to bring on the biggest and best retailers to make that process as simple as possible," he said.

“Lasoo is motivated by our goal to create the most dynamic shopping experience for our users, to be value-driven, honest and the trusted source for all their shopping information needs."

Lasoo aimed to leverage machine-learning and innovative technology to make shopping simpler for its customers, Matt Aitken, Chief Executive Officer, IVE Group, said.

“Technology is at the forefront of everything IVE does. With a new scalable website, Lasoo aims to place the power back in Australian shoppers’ hands so they can access all the information they need to quickly make the best shopping decision.

“IVE Group is always on the cutting-edge of technology, sharing retailers’ deals from your letterbox to your inbox, and have built the Lasoo platform in close consultation with our customers to ensure they can save time, save money, and discover the deals they need, when they need them,” he said.

Lasoo brings together more than 80 of Australia’s biggest retailers with the lowest available prices and exclusive in-platform deals, including ALDI, Coles, Woolworths, Pet Stock, Bottlemart, Pillow Talk, Katies, Crocs, Godfreys, Autobarn, Decathalon and exclusive retailers such as Priceline, BBQ Galore, Lincraft, Betta Electrical, Designer Appliances, Chemist Warehouse, Ramsey, and Malouf Pharmacies.

"Users will now be able to shop and discover deals from their favourite retailers in one convenient location with Lasoo filtering only the best retailers from each category – meaning no more trawling through hundreds of less valuable deals and more of comparing the products you want," a spokesman said
